Paying for your college education: Interest rates on subsidized Stafford Loans are dropping. This year they will go from 6% to 5.6% fixed. Under the College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007, the rate will continue to drop until 2011-2012, ehen it will reach an all time low of 3.4%.

The current interest rate for subsidized Stafford Loans is 5.80%. Borrow $2,000 or more. No repayment while enrolled in school. Acceptance based on financial need and income.

The Pell Grant has increased from $4,731 to $5,350 if you have a household income less than $50,000. This is a needs based grant.

Due to state cutbacks, Missouri's Forgivable loan program is now in the form of reduced interest rates. Reade more about Forgivable Loans. Federal Student Aid Filing Options.

Diploma Mills: The U.S. Department of Education has published the "positive list" of schools that are accredited by accrediting agencies recognized by the Secretary of Education . This list can be found here. This is a list of post secondary institutions and programs that have chosen to be accredited by accrediting agencies recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education. One of the reasons that institutions seek accreditation is so that their students are eligible to receive federal student aid or other federal benefits. The positive list is simply one source of information. You may need to seek other sources if an institution does not appear on the positive list.
